The University of Balochistan was established in 1971 in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. It has more than 6,000 students in one campus, 35 different fields of studies and 5 faculties. according to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the university is 11th best general category university in Pakistan.[1]

Death of Prof. Saba Dashtyari

Prof. Saba Dashtyari, the Baloch poet, writer and professor of Islamic studies was assassinated on June 01, 2011 at Sariab road, Quetta.

Professor Nazima Talib Mehdi was assassinated on 27 April 2010, when gunmen riding a motorbike sprayed her with bullets. She was Assistant Professor at Mass Communication Department of Balochistan University. She was also an intellectual and poetess and had participated in several Mushairas in Quetta and other cities, including literary programs for Radio Pakistan. Later a spokesman for the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for Ms Nazima`s killing.
